Which coaching model should you use?

Which coaching model to use in your coaching sessions is a question often asked on coach training programmes and coaching supervision sessions. As coaches we all have our own favourite coaching models that we feel comfortable with, but they aren’t always necessarily the best ones for our clients.

There are a whole host of coaching models out there for us to use – GROW, OSKAR, CLEAR as well as a variety of creative coaching models. Then there is the question of where we should hold the coaching session – online, in a client’s office, outdoors and so on.

This article from the Association for Coaching magazine, Coaching Perspectives, introduces a coaching model which may help you adapt your style and approach to best suit the needs of your client.

The SHARE Coaching Model

Paying attention to what a client shares with us can help clarify the coaching approach that will yield the best results for the client. Effective coaching requires a variety of approaches, it isn’t a one size fits all profession. Every coachee is different, has different needs and brings different perspectives to the table. Taking time to observe the person in front of us will help us decide if they would benefit from a supportive approach, a more challenging style or simply a calm space for them to fully reflect on their issue or challenge.

How do you think you could use this coaching model in your coaching practise?
